The Chronicle was experiencing a trend of an eroding subscriber-base, due to 24-hour cable news and smaller papers featuring local news. To combat the decline, we recommended creating sections reporting the news from the four Bay Area counties. The campaign to promote the new sections helped the Chronicle enjoy their first sales increase in eight years.
